At Mearns Kirk we try to be outward-looking, not only in our own community, but in the wider world.
We are much involved with Christian Aid and participate in the yearly house to house collection. Contact: James Gilchrist
In addition Mearns Kirk organises fund raising each year for a number of selected charities, and arranges a toy collection at Christmas for needy children in the Glasgow area. We also organise an annual outing by coach for Senior Citizens in the Mearns area.
PRAYER GROUP
Prayer is an important part of Christian life. On the last Tuesday of
each month a dedicated group of people gather in the Church Hall to pray. Requests for prayer can be given to the Minister, the Church Secretary or by inserting requests in the Prayer Box in the Church vestibule.
PASTORAL CARE
A group of church members are involved in visiting the housebound and elderly. They offer practical support in many ways and can also arrange transport to Church. Contact: Jean Henderson
ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
A book and video lending library is located within the Church. Many varied titles are available to suit all tastes.
Copies of Life and Work are available for sale in the Church vestibule.
Regular Wesley Owen Bookstalls are held on Church premises.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
The Support Group continues to meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the New Hall. The next meeting will take place on 7 September 2010. In addition to this an additional meeting will now take place on the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. until 11.30 a.m.. It will be the same format and is being offered in the hope of creating a possibility of support for those who cannot manage during the week or at night.
Journeying with the loss of a loved one is never easy. It is indeed one of the most difficult experiences of life. The Support Group offers a safe place to come and share your journey with others making it as well. As someone who comes to the group has said, "it's good to know that you are not on your own."
MISSION GROUP
This is an opportunity to enable folk to undertake planned reading of the entire Bible in their own time and place over the space of one year. How this can be done is shown below
